Why Team Dynamics?

Your organisation is nothing without its people. How your organisation performs depends on how they perform. Not just in their role, but with one another. All the beauty and mess of our habits, preferences and egos affect what does and doesn’t get done.

That’s why team dynamics matter. Miscommunication brings projects to a standstill. Egos cloud clear decision making and poison good strategy. Misunderstandings lead to interpersonal conflict. Workplaces become oppressive. People are driven away.

We’ve all experienced it. Great people with all the right skills just can’t seem to get the work done when you mash them together. It’s not their qualifications. It’s something else. It’s not the individuals. It’s the team.

How we do it.

Our workshops guide your people through the process of integrating high performance skills into their everyday work, so they really own the transformation.

The stages look like this:

  1. We build individual awareness. Using the DISC personality types, individuals are made aware of their strengths, challenges and preferences and how they interact with the others in their team. We can also administer assessments, so everyone gets a 15-page report for real in-depth awareness.

  2. We build team awareness. We build a team matrix, mapping out everyone’s strengths and preferences, and how everyone works best together and with each other. This helps determine where each person can best contribute to projects and problem-solving.

  3. We build trust. High performing teams are high trust teams. That enables people to communicate openly because they trust they are respected and heard. Trust, and open communication leads to healthy conflict and productive problem-solving.

  4. We mix in high performance skills. There are numerous tools, techniques and tactics for optimising communication, active listening, psychological safety and constructive conflict. Our interactive workshops are challenging in the right way.

Wait…

Isn’t team training wishy washy mumbo jumbo?

Nope.

We’ve literally trained Astronauts, Mission Control and Antarctic Explorers. They know and respect these lessons. They understand that you can do good work if you have the right qualifications. But to do great work you need the other half - real, effective teamworking skills.

Which brings us to our experience…

Charlesworth Human Performance was created by me, Susan Charlesworth. I have a BSc in Experimental Psychology and a MSc in Human Factors and Safety in Aeronautics. I spent years teaching Human Behaviour and Performance to Astronauts, Mission Control teams and Antarctic Explorers at the European Astronaut Centre.

Since then, I’ve continued to train at the European Space Agency but I also train organisations just like yours.

I’m also a qualified teacher with nearly 20 years of teaching.

I take training seriously. I don’t present slides. I run workshops and lessons which stick.
